Lifestyle block mobile shearing

Shearing

Adams Shearing provides all types of livestock shearing from the larger farm to the Lifestyle Block and includes sheep, lambs and goats. Shearing facilities can be either in a shed, a yard or we can bring our mobile trailer. We are fully independant and have all the gear required to complete the job. Animals must be contained in a small area like yards, or a pen. They should be waiting for at least one hour prior to our arrival to make it more comfortable for the animal.

Crutching

Adams Shearing also crutches sheep and lambs. For those unfamiliar with sheep maintenance this is where the wool from the belly and the rear end of the animal is clipped or shorn to remove wool and manage the risk of dags and flystrike and also makes it cleaner for lambing. We also do ring and full belly crutching. Crutching normally takes place about 6 months after shearing, but this is dependent on the breed of sheep you are farming and the season. We can help you with advice on this.

Tailing

We are available with the tailing or docking of lambs. We use the elastration method for tails and castrating testicles on young lambs and will give them inoculations and vaccinations against pulpy kidney and tetanus. Tailing is a means of preventing dags building up on the lambs’ tails.

Drenching

As a one stop farm animal health business Adams Shearing can also drench your sheep for you. Managing internal parasites is a big challenge for farmers and as many lifestyle block holders find having drenches around in larger amounts and knowing what drench to give the animal can be a problem. We will help alleviate that by having drench with us. If you require us to drench larger mobs we can arrange that as well.

Hoof Trimming

Hooves of sheep and goats grow and if not trimmed can create health problems with the animal. Adams Shearing will assist you with the trimming of sheep and goat hooves to avoid foot-rot and help the animals walk to enable them to feed and keep energised and growing. Hoof care is particularly important to be managed where your animals are kept in places that subject to wet and damp. Different breeds require hoof treatment at different times and it can depend on the types of feed, the season and of course the hoof growth rates.
